With a degree from a top school, Marko Issever thought he would have no challenges
in finding his dream job after graduation. But he was wrong. Here, he shares his green card journey as
a Middle Eastern graduate in the United States and why it’s important for international students to explore
the EB-5 option early on for best job opportunities.

I
am an immigrant. I came to the United States
as a student in the fall of 1981 for graduate
st udies. Even t houg h I w as on a n F-1 v isa,
which technically means that I had no intention
to immig rate, I surely had t he same aspirat ion
that most international students have: to find a
well-paying job and settle in the United States.
I thought that my target would be easy as I had
just gotten into the PhD program at The Wharton
School of University of Pennsylvania. Yet, since I
was not totally sure that I would be able to finish
my thesis and actually obtain the PhD degree, as a
backup during my second year of the PhD program,
I co-enrolled into the MBA program of the same
